Plant the Sun Stars' root balls approximately 7 cm deep, during the spring. Sun Star grows best in well-drained soil in a sunny area. The ground should be somewhat sandy, but this certainly isn't a requirement.

Sun Star makes a fascinating combination plant

Sun Star's delicate flowers have a striking orange hue. This colour matches beautifully with the dark purple hue of the Columbine (Aquilegia vulgaris 'Black Barlow'). This particular variety of Sun Star will certainly 'steal the stage' in flower pots and planters. You can even place a flower pot in the living room, and the Sun Star will be sure to surprise you each and every time!

Sun Star is originally from South Africa. It belongs to the Bulbous family of the 'White South Wind Lily' which which is well known as a cut flower. Sun Star is very attractive as a cut flower and will last a long time in a vase. Another one of its relatives is the 'Ornithogalum nutans'. This species can be found throughout Europe in the wild.

Give Sun Star plenty of water during its growth. Remove any faded flowers by pulling gently to separate them from the main stem, when the leaves turn yellow the foliage can be cut back. Sun Star's root balls are fairly hardy, however, during the cold weather they can be protected with a layer of fallen leaves. Did you plant your Sun Star in a pot? If so move it indoors or to a frost-free location.
