Make sure the root ball of Philadelphus 'Virginal' is well-moistened by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting. Prepare a suitable hole in humus-rich soil that is not too dry. Improve your garden soil by mixing in some compost. Plant the Mock Orange 'Virginal' at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root system should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Place the shrub in an area with complete sunshine or semi shade. It is very wind resistant.
Mock Orange looks beautiful in the shrub border, as a solitary feature or even as a loose-growing hedge. The white flowers are semi-double and spread a wonderful fragrance. Put a sprig in a vase and enjoy its fragrant flowers inside your home.
Philadelphus 'Virginal' is a strong, rich-flowering ornamental shrub. Regular pruning is necessary in order to ensure a compact flowering shrub. After flowering, trim half of the older branches back to a healthy young branch. In time your Mock Orange will be completley rejuveneted. In winter, prune all branches to 40 cm above ground level. Pruning is well tolerated by this shrub.
