15 Plants For Patio & Rockeries - Plant
To make life a little easier for yourself, we have put together this collection of 5 harmonizing varieties. The collection comprises of low-growing, hardy, clump-forming varieties. A planter, large flower pot or window-box filled with these inexpensive plants will look beautiful in summer, and it can be left outdoors in winter. Of course, the plants can also be used to create an eye-catching feature in the border. Collection contains 3 each of Maiden Pink, Blue Phlox, Soapwort', Bellflower and Yellow Stonecrop.
You can plant this mix in flower pots, window-boxes or in the ground. Would you like to plant these plants in a pot? Choose a large flower pot or planter with holes in the base and cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or gravel. Put fresh potting compost in the pot and mix in some sharp sand. Plant the root balls at the right depth in the pot. The planting distance is 10-15 cm. Fill with compost and press firmly. Give the plants plenty of water immediately after planting. Place the pot in a sunny area. Are you planting these plants in the ground? If so, you should space them further apart.
These plants are strong, easy-to-grow and low-maintenance perennials. Be sure to prevent the soil around their roots from drying out although wet soil is not well-tolerated either. Cut off faded flower stems to encourage a good growth and the flowering will continue throughout the summer. Cover the plants with a layer of fallen leaves during the winter. In spring, cut off any unpleasant-looking leaves and soon there will be some new shoots growing above the ground.
