Vegetable garden tips
In January, especially if the weather is dry, there are quite a few jobs that you can still enjoy doing in the vegetable garden. Sowing seeds and planting, and weather permitting there are some trees that can be pruned.
- Weather permitting, the first fruit shrubs can be planted now.
- If you have a greenhouse you can sow the first vegetables and geraniums.
- In mild weather you can make a start with pruning fruit trees.
- Grape vines can be pruned up to mid-January. After that the plant sap begins to rise which makes the plant vulnerable to bleeding and could be detriment to the health of the plant.
